Personally, I feel that until this is fixed, Linux will never be a mainstream desktop OS.  The problem with using your OS package manager for <a href="http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/postgres_plus/overview.do" target="_self">installing Postgres</a> is that there are no real consistency guidelines from vendor to vendor.  How do we get around this problem?  Simple!</p>
